Using & Understanding The Autoloader
- The Autoloader scale typically shows a 0.5 lb. to 0.7 lb. variation due to beans dropping into the auger drive (located below the scale) during loading. This is normal behavior.
- Scenario 1: If you load 45 lb. of beans into the Autoloader, the scale may display around 44.4 lb.
- Scenario 2: If you load 3.3 lb., the scale may display around 2.7 lbs.
- For the most accurate loading, it is recommend to add an extra batch to the Autoloader before starting a continuous cycle. For instance, if one wanted to roast 5 continuous batches, they should load coffee into the Autoloader until it allowed selection of 6 batches on the screen, then selecting 5 as desired. To perform a full 13-batch cycle, it is recommended to load 45 lb. of beans into the Autoloader. This ensures sufficient beans are available without the need for refilling.
Loading New Beans into the Hopper (Priming the Auger Drive):
- When the Autoloader is empty, follow these steps to ensure the auger drive is filled with beans:
- After loading beans into an empty Autoloader, access the Tech Panel by entering the 4-digit PIN.
- Navigate to Hopper and Autoloader options.
- Select Empty Autoloader.
- Once the beans start dropping from the auger drive, Stop the process. You can reload the dropped beans into the Autoloader.
- The auger is now primed and filled with beans, ready for normal operation.
- Final Notes:
- If the auger were empty, the first batch will dispense an underload of beans, around 2.8 lb., as the auger drive gets filled.
- You only need to follow this priming process if the auger is empty. If beans are already present in the auger (e.g., after completing a roast), priming is not necessary.
- Always ensure beans are added before starting a roast for better consistency and performance.
- Do not add beans to the Autoloader while it is dispensing beans into the hopper.
Preparation / Cleaning The Autoloader
- Remove the lid of the Autoloader. Remove the weight distribution cone from the Autoloader and place aside. Inspect for beans caught between the clear hopper and the base. The presence of beans here can throw the weight off.
- Remove one or both of the side panels of the Autoloader. Make sure that the weighing plate is flat against the base inside of the Autoloader and is flat. Note that the two planes are parallel in the image below. If not lying flat, check that the plastic inserts (circled in blue below) on the base are flat. These house the heads of the screws on the weighing plate.
Calibration Process
- First, log into the Tech Panel (PIN is 4377) and go to the Hopper and Autoload settings. Then follow the on-screen prompts to calibrate the Autoloader. The roaster will walk you through emptying the beans, taring the scale, using 5lb (2268g) to calibrate the scale, removing the weight and seeing it return to -- completing the process.
