Replacing Pneumatic Fittings

Upgrading pneumatic fittings to compression

Parts Required : 


  • ⅛” MNPT x ⅛” Compression fitting (bean load, bean drop, chaff elevator, bean exit)
  • ⅛”MNPT x ¼” Compression fitting (Hopper release solenoid and piston)
  • 10-32 UNF x ⅛”FNPT union (used for chaff elevator and bean exit)

Tools Required : 

  • Small adjustable wrench x2
  • High temperature teflon tape


Process : 

  1. Start with a cold machine unplugged from the wall. 
  2. Remove left skin and check air pressure on the pneumatic gauge. 
    1. If pressure is present, bleed off the tank by turning the knob at the bottom of the tank clockwise. NOTE : Water may be present in the tank, put a cup under the knob to catch any water.
  3. Locate the leaking fitting
  4. Remove the tubing from the fitting, if it will not come out of the fitting cut the tube as close to the fitting as you can. 
  5. Remove the old fitting from the assembly
  6. Wrap the ⅛” MNPT threading with high temperature teflon tape, 3 wraps going clockwise around the threads. 
  7. To install the compression fitting follow the instructions below : 
    1. Slide on the Nut: Loosen the nut on the compression fitting and slide it onto the tubing, with the threads facing the cut end of the tubing.
    2. Insert the Ferrule: Slide the ferrule (the compression ring) onto the tubing, making sure it's positioned correctly (the tapered end should face the fitting body).
    3. Insert the Tubing into the Fitting Body: Push the tubing into the fitting body until it bottoms out. Ensure it's fully inserted.
  8. Tighten the Compression Fitting:
    1. Hand-Tighten the Nut: Hand-tighten the nut onto the fitting body until it's snug.
    2. Wrench-Tighten the Nut: Use an adjustable wrench or open-end wrenches to tighten the nut further. Tighten the nut about 1&1/2 turn past hand-tight.
    3. Avoid Overtightening: Overtightening can damage the fitting or tubing, leading to leaks.
